When I was preparing my Gardening Talk on “The Way We Were…” I was shocked by the number of nurseries advertising in the old 1890 edition of the Gardeners Chronicle. The magazine was full of adverts from specialist nurseries.
Some of these nurseries were renowned for the quality of their plants in their day.
Yet they have sadly disappeared.
So I was delighted this week to see that the RHS are backing British Nurseries.
If we all look for British Plants when shopping for our gardens, then maybe we will be a resurgence of small local plant produces…
