I may have mentioned at talks, and on the radio (The Great Outdoors, BBC Radio Humberside 8.00 – 10.00 on a Sunday Morning) that to save money I tend to make use of any water left over when I boil the kettle by popping it in a vacuum flask to make coffee start the washing up with later.
This admission sparked our poet in residence, Janet Morton, into action, and here, by kind permission, is her latest masterpiece…
DOUG’S CUPS OF TEA
If you go to our Doug’s house to have a cup of tea
Just make sure the kettle boils while you are there to see
‘Cos if he makes your cuppa from a thermos flask
“How olds that water Douglas” I recommend you ask
As while he pours it in your cup you might just say “Now stop
As what are all those wriggly things floating on the top?”
Cos Douglas is a careful man and nothing goes to waste
Even though the food he keeps could have a funny taste
As nothings ever thrown away however old it be
And that is why there’s wriggly things floating in your tea !!!!
